The job in China

They agreed to my asking price and wanted to know when can I go! Now their US based VP wants to meet me to see if I have other request. Well, I think he wants to see if he likes me. You know, the first impression play a major part!
All the while I thought they were merely joking. But it seems they are serious about it. It's my turn to hesitate. Because if I agree it means I will have to move to China, the place where is the bottom of my list to go. I'll see how it goes. They propose me to be their QA Manager. This is no Chinaman company, and it ain't no easy to become a QA Manager in a multinational company. USD6k a month is cheap for a position of QA Manager you know?
Anyway, I'll see how it goes after meeting the VP. Who know? It may end up he doesn't like me after all!

P.S: I have not told the old folks yet. So I am counting on you guys to zip up your mouths.

Head Hunted!

They have been talking to me about me possibly work for them at their China plant for weeks. I told them I wanted expatriate salary and priviledges. Well, they finally came to Penang to talk to me last night. I took them to my wife's place and after few rounds of beer, we had a chat about my terms and conditions.

USD6k a month, 14 months a year salary, 2 years contract and 40 days annual leave. That were my minimum conditions. They didn't even blink an eye! Job offered is basically the same as the one I am working in Jabil Penang.

Well, lets see what happen. I don't enjoy what I am doing anyway, so I might as well ask for the maximum wage. Their VP is gonna call me from US some time next week. If he's happy with me, I think I'll have to start packing next month!

Updates

I have not spent much time to update my blog. Maybe it is a sign that I have lost interest to this blog thinggy. Writing a journal or diary is not really my cup of tea. I remember when I was in college I was the only one in class who was always late in my journal submission(it was a requirement for anyone who attended English class).
Anyway, what's up with my life? Nothing. Ever since I decided to go back to the Dilbert Universe my life has been boring. Not to say my previous life was exciting. But at least it gives me a freedom to go around.
I met my friend from US yesterday. We went for a mountain bike ride in the morning. After that I took him to my favorite Mee Udang spot for a nice Mee Udang dish. You should try it when you are back. It's called Mak Long Mee Udang in Teluk Kumbar. He enjoyed the ride very much. But when I asked about his job, I realized that I opened a can of worms. It seems to me there are lots of uncertainties when it comes to job security. I pity him. Already 58 years of of age, still have to pay for hosue mortgage, got an 80 year old mom to take care of, an 18 year old son who will be going to college after the summer break and he may be laid off due to the bad business. I think I am going to pray for him in my next Friday Christian Fellowship gathering.
Oh yeah, I am sitting in a cosy couch at the Starbuck e-Gate now and enjoying my coffee of the day. For RM8 a huge cup of caffeine air con, free power point and a free highspeed wifi to access, I can't complain!
Btw, picture was taken at the walkway of the Jelutong Expressway. Not many people know about it. I went there just now to plant cache.

Geocaching at Teluk Bahang Forestry Museum

Sorry folks. I have not been able to update my blog so often now since I don't have a frequent access to the pc I used to work on. Also, there's nothing to talk about the work. It is very mechanical; wake up at 6.30am, go to work at 7am, answering e-mails at 8am till lunch hours and then, meetings, meetings, meetings! The only moment I fell energized is during the pay day!

Oh yeah, I went to geocaching again this Sunday. It was a short walk, and I found the cache at a very brief time. Signed the log and left since it was getting dark.

Little David is becoming talkative now. His mom and I often time found ourselves doumbfound when he asks questions that we do not know how to answer. We also just received a call from his pre-school teacher that he was having a fight with a bigger kid. Guess what? He won! Apparently that 4 year old kid has been bullying him for some time. Then one day he turns back and kicks his croth. Ouch, what a nut breaking moment. But hey I am not proud of it ok? But still, when I think about it I still can't help laughing my pants off!

That's all for today.

P.S: One of the MNCs in Penang approached me and offered a position of QE(Quality Engieer) in Shenzen, China. I will be there as an expatriate if I accept it. I told them my min asking price is USD5.5k/month. That's the minimum salary for engineers in US. I am waiting for their counter offer now. But at the end I may have to think if I want to leave little David and his mom in Penang. Lets see what happen. They ask for me resume. I am gonna send them a copy by the end of this week.
